The Thief of Rod Stewart's Car Gets 11 Years In Prison - The man who stole Rod Stewart's sport car pleaded guilty yesterday and the judge sentenced him to 11 years in prison.

Donald Michael Smith also pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary for a separate incident in which he choked his neighbor and held her at gunpoint.

"I don't think any prison sentence less than 11 years would be appropriate," Cook said. "Your being on drugs is no excuse to impose that type of terror on [your neighbor] and her child."

Donald Smith stole Stewart's yellow Dodge Viper last year after getting fired from his landscaping job at the singer's Palm Beach home, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported, citing a police report. The car was found later near a canal with $15 000 worth of damage.

The judge also ordered Smith to follow a drug treatment program after his release.
