Well...now we know why he doesn't have it any longer (remember when $50k was a lot for a car?):
Rod Stewart, Citing Violence, to Return to Britain

Several years after he moved from Britain to California to avoid high British taxes, the rock singer Rod Stewart says he is moving back to his native land to get away from violence in the United States.
Mr. Stewart, whose $50,000 Porsche was stolen by a gunman on a Los Angeles street last month, described violence in the United States as ''a bad scene and getting worse.''
He said in London that he had made the decision to return with his family after a neighbor, Maggie Abbott, a movie agent, was robbed at gunpoint outside her home in Los Angeles.
''It was a terrible experience for her,'' he said, ''and after being robbed myself not long ago, I have the feeling that violence in America is getting worse.''
''It will be a lot worse this summer,'' said Mr. Stewart, who attributed the situation to high unemployment. Mr. Stewart, who was in London for a vacation, said he would move back to Britain with his family after finishing a new record album and a concert tour of the United States.
