My '55 Continental Cabrio came from Hawaii. It was on e-Bay. I contacted a friend who contacted the head of the Porsche Club in Hawaii and we had a nice chat about the car. He assured me that the car was accurately represented, as he knew the car.
Transportation was no problem at all. Matson
http://www.matson.com/ transports hundreds of cars back and forth every week. The only problem we encountered is that every horizontal surface that was chrome or aluminum was corroded from the salt air. You would do a little better paying for a container, but they are not air-tight. Also, many shippers cram as many cars into a container as possible, stacking one on top of another with temporary shoring. I'd hate to be a bottom, so to speak.
I believe it was $799 a few years ago t get it to either docking location in California.
Good luck!
