Old life insurance policies

My mother passed away last month. She lived to the age of 91. My mother was born in London and came to the U.S. after WWII.

We have been going through some of her papers and came across two (2) life insurance policies for her. These policies were purchased by her father in 1922 in London. The purchase price for each policy was three (3) pence.

On the back of each policy, there is an update "sticker" that is dated 1952. The sticker reads: "This policy is now free and fully paid up. There are no more payments needed, and the worth is payable at death."

My sister called Prudential Assurance in England. They told her that since the policy numbers don't exist in their system, they are worthless. Well, you don't piss off my sister. We have some Irish in us too. It's not the money, but the principle now. She is looking to enlist legal representation in the UK and has mentioned hopping on a plane and "choking the bastards".

We'll see how this plays out.
