Yes & no. Cheapest & best are opposites in consumer goods.
As a ‘new’ manufacturing powerhouse, China has fulfilled ‘the need’ spectacularly. The need being the world’s consumer’s constant demand for cheaper & cheaper goods. Not better goods, but cheaper goods. Product longevity has nosedived along with the price. Our expectation of reliability & longevity has also plummeted because we accept it. We write it off as not worth the hassle to go through the after warranty repair process because a new one is only $xxx.
We are to blame. Not China.

It doesn't have to be pretty, just functional. This is in a large mildly heated crawl space. North wall. I put the styro all around it in the summer months & take it off in the winter. $6K + of wine here. Perfectly preserved. Some mighty fine drinking over the next 10 - 20 years.
