Sure, they have a purpose. Or did. But with sports wagons that get better mileage, are faster, and handle better such as the BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Audi, to name a few, which also carry nearly as much cargo, the SUV is, IMO, eclipsed on the functionality front.

Sounds like you're not a target customer, I wouldn't buy one if I were you
