Shan, didnt mean to scare you. They are safe when they are used properly. The few fires ive seen where either caused by defects in the unit itself, the contents inside drying up and the pot cracking, or misplacement. People put them on the counter underneath cabinets. They shouldnt generate enough heat to ignite anything but it has happened. UL wouldnt certify them if they didnt pass the safety requirements. But ***** can still happen.
Hey, any appliance can malfunction and cause a fire. But I guess I'm just paranoid since ive been a firefighter. I just dont like leaving any cooking appliance unattended when I'm not home. I dont even like when my wife leaves the clothes dryer running when she goes out. I've just seen too much happen over the years.
