This may sound a little "ghetto" but why not just make a cover for the filter/airbox that you put on while you're washing it?
After you're done drying the car (assuming you do that with a shami, etc) then take off the cover and drive away.
Seems like the issue is too much water getting into the air box then the fuel system, which is very bad for engine internals.
