I would think that by now any problems with the bike would have popped up. Are their any service records? Call the closest BMW dealer and give them the VIN and ask them to pull any records they can find. Letting the Service Manager know you'll be bringing the bike in as needed might help.
I think the bikes that haven't had major problems, or had them fixed correctly are great bikes. But I agree the price looks a little high. If everything checks out, offer him $5500 and see what happens.
