Well, it's a bit high for a 99, but as was said, any early manufacturing hiccups should have long since been worked out. I don't know of ANY tranny problems endemic to 99s. Those tabs can break, but out of many I've seen (and my own) I've not seen it personally. Compared to most bikes, the S changed very very little over time, with most differences (other than some tranny internals) being cosmetic or bolt-on in nature. Nothing wrong with a 99, other than that all seals will be 7 years older than on an 06.
