I took possession of the first R11S put on the road in America in the summer of 1998 and still have it. I only have about 45000 miles on mine and have kept it 100% stock except for careful tuning. No problems like you described. The front steering dampers do wear out about every 12000 miles and the small needle bearing on the pivots between the rear end and the swing arm housing need to be checked and possibly replaced if they go. Great bikes. Mine will still pull to a indicated 145 with no problem. Very quick bike for its size, power, and weight. You should be able to pick up a low mileage one (22000 to 33000 miles) for about 4750 to 5400. Bargain prices out there now.
