For me it would, without a doubt.
I think if you buy it at BestBuy, you can get a decent third party "no excuses" warranty/insurance, i.e. if you drive over or shoot a hole in the iPhone, they will replace it free.
ATT and Apple do not directly offer such insurance for the iPhone.
FYI, I cracked the glass screen on my iPhone and Apple "allowed" me to buy a new one at the contract subsidized price. Apple has no provision to replace the glass/digitizer/screen assembly - you just buy a new iPhone.
But, there are many reputable shops that will do this repair for about $150 or less,
AFAIK, if you don't mind being phone-less for a few days. The Apple store will even recommend a shop.
