for the record I didn't design the survey, and I'll pass on the comments to the team. I agree that the multiple questions on/about the same thing are a "clue" but remember this isn't designed to teach anyone. This is merely a survey to get data to see non-native perceptions about culture. We are checking this data against "expert" models to see how they differ/agree. As for this survey, it is common to try and ask the same question in different ways to keep people from "gaming" the survey. But that design in itself is an art form.
The teaching system is actually pretty cool. It is a "game" where you "sit down" with a virtual character. In the first version you'd sit down with an Iraqi police captain. You have an objective going in (usually to find out information) and you have to conduct yourself accordingly. There is a "trust meter" and by your actions and words you gain or lose trust. There are a lot of subtle and not so subtle things that influence these situations and the goal is to have people be able to practice with a virtual character.
