I am leaning toward combining the two solutions, so that at low speed or idle the rising hot air will vent upward and at speed cooler air forcing its way into the bay will push hot air out of the vents, helped by the lower air pressure created by air moving over the vents.
Anybody fault the logic?

I can't fault it. That is exactly my plan.
