The Canon XTi (released in 2006) trumped the D40 in every aspect, 10mp instead of 6, 9point AF instead of 3 and a ultrasonic self cleaning sensor. The D40 doesn't even have the auto focus motor on the body so you'll have to buy the AF-S or AF-I ($$) lenses if you want auto focus. The XSi (replaces the XTi) has been out for some time now as well ... man where have you been?
