In the 73.5 you use a Hand throttle to start the car and set the idle as the car warms up. Later, Porsche, added the thermotime circuit to eliminate the hand throttle system.

I wonder if Gogar has a later timing chain cover and the thermotime switch is acting as a plug for the hole.

Does you car have a hand throttle between the seats? It looks like the heater lever but is black and will be on the left side of the handbrake.

Also, be aware that the 73.5 engine has some items that are unique to that engine.
