I broke my right thumb while fighting MMA. I took a plastic PVC pipe (sprinkler type) and cut it to about 2 1/2 inches in length. Then I split it down the middle so I had a "boat shaped" piece of plastic. I smoothed the edges down with sandpaper.
I used dense foam to pad the interior, then I taped it to my thumb so it would not bend with athletic tape. I am not sure if this helps, but Noah930 sure can.
