One piece of advice: at this time of the year, stick to the major highways. Therefore, go through Toronto (401 to Toronto) then 400 North to Barrie, then Hwy 26 to Collingwood. It will be quicker, but more importantly much safer. Many 2-lane roads are leading to Collingwood, but lots of them are subject to snow drifting, black ice,... in winter. Ask me how I know.
