I spoke to a buddy of mine that details cars and he said to spray windex on the glue\residue then hit it with the steamer for 30 seconds. This should soften the glue right up.

They did not laugh at me at the garage today, in fact, they were impressed at how quickly & easily the steamer worked, and how good the glass looked overall. I'm going to borrow a tiny mini steamer wand from a friend, and next chance I get, I'll hit that spot with some Windex, and use the little wand which should fit back there fine, and clean up a couple of little stray spots and it'll be 100% good to go.
I had thick fog and torrential rain to deal with on my drive home tonight, and I really appreciated the vastly improved visibility all around. Yay!
