Afraid it sounds like money to me as well. If it were me? A flat tow to the best transmission man I know of. No way to know for sure until the transaxle is opened up, but by the sound? I'm guessing ring & pinion. A silver lining? If you don't already have limited slip, now may be the time to think about it. Sorry to hear the news, but heck..."only" mechanicals. They can be fixed...
