Confused at what you did.
Was/is your network controlled by your desktop? Meaning WAN comes into it?
Typical setup would be your WAN goes into the Linksys which can be left as the default DHCP server.
You can also leave the Desktop, laptop and other computers as dynamic clients on the LAN side and everything will be visable.
