No, my desktop is a client on a wired LAN.
Typical setup would be your WAN goes into the Linksys which can be left as the default DHCP server.
I did not put the linksys on the WAN side (too far from my office) , I just want to use it for wireless access to the LAN in my office. I could connect the laptop directly to the wall and see all computers, but I want to do it wireless...
You can also leave the Desktop, laptop and other computers as dynamic clients on the LAN side and everything will be visable.

Agree if the wireless router was connected to the WAN, but it is not.
