Don't do a VR6
At 16/17 you really don't need anything other than the 911. A vr6 golf is as expensive to maintain as a mid model 911. I am constantly dropping $500+ in repairs. I can figure out most things on an early Porsche, but the VR6 is another story. The electronics in this pig are lousy. The earlier models (those in the 5-7k range) are getting old and showing it. Why do you think they're being sold so cheaply. The only reason I'm keeping mine any longer is that it's paid for and has less than 10k on the new motor.
What do I drive? '95 Golf VR6, '96 Passat TDI (I used to sell VWs) and a '70 914-6 (NARP)
Oh yeah, a 6.8 second 0-60 VR6 has had some work. I've clocked mine at 7.1. That's what C&D and R&T claim as a stock time.
If you really want something else to drive daily, buy a truck or SUV as a tow vehicle/ parts hauler
