It is pretty hard to see how an undamaged rubber could fall off of a mounted shock unless the nut and washer fell off also. Maybe it was mounted without a washer? Anyone that has had to cut off a shock nut would find that very hard to imagine. Were the rear shocks ever replaced? Is there any rattle/knocking on that side? Look under the car is there a shock mounted on that side?
