Thanks for the replies. I crawled under the car tonight to get a look...rear shocks are Bilsteins. They both seem to be well attached! So I'm going with the theory of the rubber shock bushing being a remnant of a shock replacement at some point in the car's history, from Boge to Bilstein. If I'm not mistaken I've read somewhere that Boge was original equipment.
