Apparently you don't have lines to a trombone cooler. All the rear mounted units will not help to any degree. You need oil volume, surface area and air flow or at least 2 out of three. That said your engine doesn't need a full radiator and fan. The larger engines had more problem with heat.
Getting factory or Elephant lines with a thermostat is really the best solution. My car would have had a trombone if it came with AC - it gets REALLY hot here, so most of the summer I only drive to work in the AM and drive out of covered parking there for a hot drive home.
I recently rebuilt my engine and when it actually worked I installed the missing external cooler.
I decided to fit a 28 brass tube cooler with Elephant lines and plumbing. I liked the brass cooler for its nautical feel and even polished the brass before installing. I wish my thermostat opened more often. I ran at the track and got to 200 degrees - no further.
I don't use my Kool Kollar anymore - it wouldn't fit over the Filter Mag.
