I agree that the S hose cooler is useless.
Start with the basics. Do you have an 11 blade fan? Have you checked the engine oil cooler to see if the fins are open? Usually what happens is the thermostat o-ring leaks and the oil runs into the oil cooler, blocking the airflow.
I would make sure the existing system is working right before investing in external coolers.
