Lowriders and other stupid things I used to think were cool

I got behind a lowrider on a surface street today and the sorry motherfather was going so slow, he made me miss a freaking light. Not usually a big deal but it's one of those mega 4 lane streets where lights go on forever.

Anyway, I used to think they were cool and all, driving real slow to show off the paint job, crushed velvet interior and tear drop antenna cutouts. We used to cruise up and down the main drag bouncing all around because of the super soft suspension and skinny tires that can have either too much caster or camber, depending on the setting. My good friend had an dropped mini-truck and the entire bed was on hydraulics like a dump truck. That thing never saw dirt or used for hauling anything but it was cool to deply the bed while cruising.

Man, were we stupid. We dropped big cash to have those toys. I was 16 and working at Burger King at the time. What an idiot I was.

I also wore one pants leg hiked up around my calf to show I was so cool, I couldn't be bothered. LL Cool J didn't start that fad, I did back in '81. Stupid and short-lived fad until he brought it back in the '90s. He should've left it for dead.

I guess kids will always be stupid. Lots of lowriders around still plus those hiked up Cutlass' with the big 22's that look like stage coach wheels rolling around. Except nowadays, kids prefer bright green or orange paint jobs.
