Given the economy, I would have to take a hit on the parts I have to sell as well as the chassis I have. I'd likely net less than what a used 993 will cost today. It would take me months to get rid of everything with packing and running to the shipping store. And if I don't get things off in time, then folks start posting unhappy threads in the Classifieds as we've seen often enough.

My goal is to build a race car the way I want it. Building a race car isn't necessarily smart when folks are trying to liquidate their race toys these days, but I'll have less into this project than someone who's building a similar car because I've been collecting parts for the last few years. In the end the car will be to my spec in every aspect, not some tired track whore that's seen a couple seasons of track running, built to someone else's spec or idea of what's right for a race car.

Sure my time is valuable, but I don't owe it to anyone to make this happen next month or next year. So if the family calls...I can drop everything and go tend to their needs.

Without a big wad of cash waiting around for a 993 purchase, I'm doing this as funds become available and picking up parts I need at prices I'm willing to pay. I do my own welding and fabrication, and I enjoy doing it. I will learn to paint and I'll enjoy doing that. I build my own engines which I really enjoy doing, esp. when I can make more power than a stock 993 with less money then what a 3.6 conversion goes for these days. This is a hobby...and I'd imagine there are plenty of hobbiests here that would agree with me.

In the end, I might have spent more than what a tired 993 might go for, but I'll have a freshly built, light and capable car that I built with my own hands which will be faster than a stripped down 993.
