Yesterday, I had to visit the local university in preparation for an upcoming class that I will be teaching. During my drive, I noticed that the university police had positioned themselves in a semi-secluded spot that is visible only to the on-coming traffic. After finishing my business at the university I left traveling in the opposing direction. I then witnessed the highly unprofessional tactic that this elite force was using. I was truly shocked by what I saw. Upon arriving home, I immediately E-mailed the police chief the following letter:

XXXXXXX,
I was driving past the university this morning at approximately 8:52 AM and witnessed an even that troubled me. The university police were parked in the TMB parking lot apparently using a speed detection device to capture speeds of the vehicles passing. This is good as many motorists do not generally adhere to the posted 25 mph speed limit. What I saw next would certainly warrant a ticket if the average civilian pulled a similar act: the university police traveled the wrong way through a one-way street in order to stop a vehicle. I realize that laws are sometime bent depending on the circumstances at hand; however, this was clearly not an emergency and I was rather alarmed to see this act first-hand.
XXXXXX

Some may defend these officers actions (oddly, people here defend a lot of questionable things...); however, a one-way street is a one-way street and the premeditated usage is an illegal maneuver and is very inappropriate.
