Some great stuff is mentioned here by you guys and of course, this is a bit like choosing which flavor of popsicle is best. Current and recent rock and blues guitarists are really not doing licks that were not done by the founders of the genre many decades ago.

For what they call "phrasing" or "voice," it's hard to resist bowing to the likes of Clapton or Gilmour. For powerful, eye-opening stuff, there's Roy Buchanan, Page, etc.

And while my contribution to the discussion here is certainly going to get some boo's, I've been noticing what a masterful job Don Felder did on the solo in Hotel California. It is as if the genius of Mozart possessed him.
