It's really important to get those footwell blowers working if you want good air-flow. They make a huge difference.

As far as defogging the inside of the windshield, if you get in the car and crank the heat to full, that will make them worse. When the car is cold and has been sitting, you're better off setting the defogger to full cold, then as you drive the car, over the next mile or so, gradually change the temp of the air to the windshield to hot. That should keep your windshield 100% fog free. Going full heat when the car is cold makes it worse.
