If the software was preinstalled on the laptop when it was purchased new (meaning it is most likely OEM software), then you would be pirating software in the first place. You cannot simply move most software from one machine to another.

Even if you had the original install media (the CD) that contains Office, it would be a violation to install it on another machine if the CD is Marked as: "This software is for distribution with a new PC only." OEM Software is tied to, in all practicality, the case of the computer. That's why that little shiny Microsoft Authenticity Certificate is attached, so that one knows it is OEM and not Retail. That Certificate also gives future owners of that machine the ability to install the original Operating System without having to purchase it. OEM Software is not owned by an individual.

If you do own the full Retail copy of Office Professional, you can purchase replacement media from Microsoft for a small amount.

It's ridiculous all the replies of people not knowing what they are doing, yet trying to steer you the wrong direction. It sounds like most are condoning pirating the software...how sad.
