I think it depends what is new in the rebuild; The 20 min procedure is for rockers/cams, but for seating the rings the initial run with varied rpms is very important. Since it is recommended to let the motor cool down overnight between the two, I do not think waiting a few months would make a difference. More importantly, do not forget to build up oil pressure by cranking without spark and gas before the first start.
