My wife tells me there were only half a dozen kids there, and that it's a class geared towards the pre-schooler. So, at the end of the class, she asked the sensei how much classes cost. Does $230 for 8 classes (once per week for 8 weeks) sound reasonable?
GOOD GOD, NO!!!!

Item one: Interval
They only have class once a week? "Danger, danger, Will Robertson!" No one can make progress with only one class a week.

Item two: Age
It's a bit like learning to read. Many parents are thrilled that they've spent countless time and money to teach Johnny to read before first grade. And yet, all studies show that statistically he'll be dead-even with all other children by third grade. My point? Wait until the child is at least in the first grade. At that point he'll have the cognitive skills, a bit of an attention span, and better motor skills. At this point just do pretend Karate.

Item three: Cost
$230 for eight weeks??? Must be all those social programs they need to fund in California. I pay $20 a month for my son to take Tae Kan Doe. That's for two one-hour classes each week. I then pay an extra $10 a month for my classes. Those classes are two one-hour classes a week as well. (The instructor is a nationally ranged 5th degree black belt.)

Item four: Gratuitous pic
My seven-year-old son is up for his yellow belt this month
