FWIW, I tested (on my 993) the closed airbox with RS/turbo snorkel versus an open (cup style) airbox and found a few extra hp with the open airbox. The gains were all at high rpm's, just like the dyno plot posted above.
So for a street car, a few hp above 4500 rpm has little value. On a track car, there's at least a little bit of use for it.
