HD I think most people here would agree with you 100%. This group seems to be considerably more in-tune and astute than the average yob out there (well, in general anyway - there are a few notable exceptions). One of the reasons I spend so much time here. It's attractive to see a group of people that - in general - are at least one or two standard deviations to the right of the bell curve.
Yes, people are S-T-U-P-I-D. As in, "dumb-as-a-sack-full-of-ball-peen-hammers" stupid. Quite often in fact. You've been here a while. You probably know I'm right there with ya' in having a VERY low tolerance level for stupidity - particularly when it comes to fiscal irresponsibility and DEFINITELY when it comes to this recent flippin' housing bubble that has all but destroyed our economy. "Hate" is a strong word and I don't really use it. But I come about *this* close to saying that I truly HATE the individuals that promulgated this mess - stupid idiots that bought beyond their means, greedy, selfish "pusher" realtors and loan brokers, unethical turds that created "mortgage backed securities" and the even LESS ethical turds that manipulated the rating of them so they could be resold to unsuspecting third parties as "quality" investments. The whole thing STUNK. It pisses me off to no end. I wish I could seriously go back in time and pop a few of these imbiciles and greedy bastiges right in the gob. I think I seriously would. Maybe I should have. I saw it coming. Many of us did (dig back in the archives)... Don't get me started.
People in our society face huge challenges - most of them created by ourselves and our fat, lazy, stupid obsession with instant gratification and mindless titillation without concern for consequence or cost. We think we're "entitled" to sit around, do nothing, spew B.S. and have the world kiss our asses because of the hard work of our grandparents. Sheer idiocy. I'm right there with you in being SICK TO HELL of it.
However (back on topic) I think Wall-E makes the point clearly and at least attempts to smack a few of these idiots right between the eyes with a tack hammer and jar their A.D.D.-afflicted pea brains back to something resembling attention. I think Pixar's "preachiness" didn't come from elitism so much as a genuine disgust and concern for where our collective laziness is going to take us - and an attempt to maybe give enough people a wake-up smack.
Unfortunately I think we NEED this kind of obvious, unsophisticated and in-your-face blunt commentary on our condition. The fact that you're so disgusted and annoyed with it actually is a GOOD thing. It means SOMEONE got the message. Granted you probably had it to begin with, but at least someone "gets it". We're SUPPOSED to be disgusted with ourselves. The movie is SUPPOSED to make us angry - to the point we do something.
I still think it was damn well done. Looking forward to "Up". Out soon.
