Small aside to answer your question:
I once met a guy in a bar who worked at a crematorium. (for humans).
He assured me that you never actually get the ashes of
your loved one. Instead they incinerate all day and then divide the total ashes up amongst all the waiting urns at the end of the day.
So that's not necessarily only aunt Doris on the mantelpiece.
