I see no reason why with the right intake a american 4bbl would have issues on a flat six. Hence the above picture. If you have ever seen an old six cylinder from the 60's they ran great with the carb mounted on an intake that had two very short runners, two medium runners, and two very long runners, it's not the best for performance but it worked.

I think it would be cool for someone to install two holley 2bbl carbs, one for each bank, then you could have the carbs closer to the intake valves.
