Many people apply nicknames for tools instead of their real name (e.g. "Channel locks" insead of slip-joint pliers; "Crescent wrench" instead of adjustable wrench, etc.), but the key word, "drill" should have been a clue for the salesperson to direct you to the section of the store where the "drills" are.
The kid either didn't receive enough basic training or hasn't restocked the shelves yet. He's probably the owner's son.
