Phoenix is rough on cars! When we moved here we had a '96 Neon that didn't have a scratch. Within a few months of our arrival it had dings all over. We were shocked! That's why we keep a real beater for the airport and errands.
Another thing to watch out for is shopping carts. When it's 110 out, nobody wants to drag their cart to the corral. They just dump them and run. I've seen people lay a cart against the car in the next parking space. This is extra annoying during the monsoon season when a 30-50 mph afternoon wind whips up and carrys the unattended cart across the lot and into your door.
