RDM said the finale will be a story about the characters and I think it was just that. The flashbacks may have been an easy way out but they worked out ok; they did add depth to some of the characters.
I was rather surprised that the final fate of the fleet turned out to be a well predicted one, but the rest of the plot was refreshing. It did feel a bit rushed at some points but overall I enjoyed the finale.
For me the most memorable part was when Gaius said "you know, I know about farming" and nearly broke into tears. When it was all said and done he was back to being himself, instead of the new self image he created to run away from his past and even his father, without even knowing. I thought that was oh so very human and pretty much summed up the character side of this "humanistic sci-fi" series.
