And yet another happy-ending story today of a citizen defending themselves:

Pedestrian Fatally Shoots Motorist Who Almost Hit Him, Deputies Say

A motorist died after a near-miss car accident with a pedestrian escalated into a fight and shooting, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

Yeniel Rodriguez, 25, who lived in the 5000 block of Pinebreeze Court, died after being shot during a struggle with Russell Carpenter, 42, who lives in the 900 block of Sumter Road East west of West Palm Beach, according to information released today by the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Carpenter was walking home about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was almost hit by a vehicle driven by Rodriguez. That prompted an argument between the two and Rodriguez then chased Carpenter on foot, Barbera said.

Carpenter ran to his home and got a gun to defend himself, Barbera said. When Rodriguez tried to enter the home, Carpenter shot him, Barbera said. Rodriguez was pronounced dead by Palm Beach Fire-Rescue.

No arrest was made. The results of the investigation will be handed over to the State Attorney's Office, which will determine whether the shooting was self-defense, Barbera said.
