Clutch problem
Recentely I noticed the clutch having trouble engaging and there seemed to be a lot of free play in the pedal. I adjusted the bolt at the end of the clutch cable sorta under the transmission to tighten up the cable. The clutch felt great for about 60 miles and then went out again. Took it to a shop and they looked at it and installed a new clutch cable...driving was a dream...for about 60 miles...goes from perfect to almost unable to engage gears...creeps along with the clutch depressed and now there is about two or three inches of what feels like "free play" when I depress the pedal. The car is a 100% stock '70 1.7 with 122,000 miles. I have all of the maintenance records from the PO and at 106,000 a "clutch kit" costing $475 was installed along with a complete engine rebuild. At 118,00 miles the transmission got all new synchro rings, 1st gear teeth, 2nd gear teeth, 2nd/3rd sleeve and gaskets. I have not had any problems grinding or engaging gears until last week. Has anyone encountered this type of problem? Any suggestions? Thanks, Randy
