I think that is a very plausible explanation. I drive the car frequently and during the hot Tennessee summers Air Conditioning would be nice. That is the only reason I've thought about getting a newer 911. I'm not molesting the car by adding A/C that it wasn't shipped with. With 200hp at 2600lbs it is a fun and peppy car.
Just for the driving pleasure it is worth its weight in gold to me.
