I got the call Saturday morning that my grandfather passed away.

He died exactly 730 days after my grandmother--one day short of exactly two years with the leap year. This exact week two years ago I traveled to Florida for her funeral, this past week for his.

He was awake and talking on Friday, he died around 5 in the morning Saturday. He had four kinds of cancer that weren't discovered until January: brain, two kinds of lung cancer, and skin cancer. At least he went quick, unlike my grandmother.

He and my grandmother were married for 55 years. I only hope I can live to be half the man he was, and I hope my marriage can be as long and happy. The last two years were really tough on him without his partner.

So I hopped in the truck with the wife on Monday and drove down to Florida. We stayed the night near Valdosta and hit Melbourne the next morning. Wednesday was the funeral, and we left to drive home on Thursday. We left at 5:40 a.m. EDT and arrived home at 10:45 p.m. CDT.
