A few years ago, I was "tuning" my Aston Martin DB4 along the top of the Grapevine between LA and Bakersfield. After a hard run, I pulled over at Gorman and a minute or two later a CHP pulls in behind me and says he saw me from the other side of the freeway and said "You were going just about as fast as you could weren't you?". He didn't have a radar on me. I replied "Officer, if I was going as fast as I could, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now". It was like 7AM on a Sunday, and he told me to hold it down. No ticket.
