What a cool thing.
I do well and truly admire the skill and fortitude it takes to be a firefighter. You guys have my utmost respect...I have done a lot of interesting things in my life but I know I couldn't do what you guys and gals do.
The first time through the Navy school for shipboard fire and damage control was illuminating: I have always been able to remain fairly calm and deliberate in tense situations, but the first time through the fire course
every part of my intellect and soul wanted to run...I wasn't thinking at all, I was in survival mode.
It never really got any better. I stayed put and did my part, but I was never, ever at ease, never in control.
