When I moved to CA back in 2001, I went from a mid 50's salary in upstate NY to mid 70's. It was a paycut. When I moved to TX in 2004, I went from mid-80's (120 with bonus) to mid-80's (90 or so with bonus), it was more like a pay increase.
And I was able to pocket the increase in value of my townhouse from 2001-2004
