I work at a non profit that supports people with disabilities and earlier in life provided "peer support" to kids with Downs in high school. Check out a book called "Adventures in the Mainstream" by a local Seattle author named Greg Palmer. He spoke at our last fundraiser and has a great perspective on life with his son.

Being a parent is scary. My 19 and 16 yo kids are seemingly healthy and happy, pretty well adjusted but everyday brings new challenges. They are there whether the kids are "normal" or not. It is also an incredible experience and as you already know, you don't know how much you can love someone until you are a parent.
